Do you have trouble getting noticed? Is your existence hum-drum and average? Is life getting a bit boring? Need some fun in your life? Well, look no further, salvation is at hand in the form of this Invicta watch.
If you had to describe this whole set of watches in a single word, the word chosen would have to be "absurd." These watches are gargantuan, huge, out-sized, almost clownish. These watches are the very definition of wretched excess.
The watch in question does not sit on the wrist, it lurks. It is like having a small pterodactyl perched on the wrist; a hungry, watchful pterodactyl, surveying the landscape, just waiting to pounce on some small unwary victim.
The watch takes up a huge amount of bodily real estate. It overwhelms the wrist and make a major encroachment on the back of the hand. You can almost hear the watch plotting its next move, the seizure of the entire arm and after that, perhaps the chest cavity. Yes, the watch is that big, and that intimidating.
With all that acreage, the simple function of telling time is almost besides the point. Still the watch does tell time with aplomb. The huge dial with equally large numbers is super-readable and the calendar feature is also highly legible. Invicta is more than generous with the lume, making the watch easy to read in the dark.
The weakest part of the watch has to be the hands. With no sweep second, the watch feels chintzy. The two hands actually provided only contribute to the feeling that every expense was spared in the making of the the hands.
That same feel continues with the band. It is big slab of indifferent rubber. Fortunately, the band does have a well polished stainless buckle that is all business, and there are the decretive steel elements on the band. Still, the band is stiff and hard to manage. Getting the watch off and on is a chore. The rubber itself has a slightly unpleasant feel against the skin, it is not objectionable but the wearer is constantly reminded that almost all the money he spent went either into the watch's movement or its case.
It is also hard to know how serious the 100 meter designation for the watch is. The screw down cap compresses a tiny o-ring that does not look like it could survive for long in the briny depths. One could swim along the surface of the water and do some casual snorkeling with the watch, but free diving or scuba diving with this "diver" watch is a very bad idea.
If this watch sold at the original MSPRP it would have rated much lower than the four stars it was given. But at the Amazon price, this watch is practically a steal. Even with the disclaimer of being a swiss parts movement (that is a majority of the movement is constructed in China) the watch is still a screaming buy.
That this great buy is a big, goofy and absurd piece of costume jewelry only make the deal sweater. Granted you do have to have a certain devil-make-care disposition to wear the watch. It also helps if you have hefty wrists, either because you are big-boned or are pumped up via weight lifting. It still works if you, like me, have a fine wrist, just pretend that you are making an ironic statement. If that does not work you can alway repurpose the Russian Diver as a wall clock. Flavor Flav would most likely approve this watch.
